McIntosh man wounded in officer-involved shooting with Marion sheriff’s deputies

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were involved in an officer-involved shooting Monday after responding to a disturbance call in McIntosh.

The man who was shot was taken UF Health Shands Hospital and is listed in stable condition. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded and is conducting a full investigation into the incident per Marion County Sheriff’s Office policy.

The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 4:15 p.m. Monday, sheriff’s deputies received a call in reference to a verbal disturbance in 20800 block of 12th Street in McIntosh. The caller said that a man in his car outside her house was making threatening statements to her and her family. Witnesses in the neighborhood said that the man also made statements claiming that he would run anyone over who came near him, a sheriff’s office report states.

Deputies arrived on scene and approached the man, who was uncooperative and would not respond to their commands. Witnesses reported that he drove toward the deputies, who then fired their weapons at him, the report says, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
