Nasty battle over ‘good’ dish towel being used to wash car lands man in jail

B.J. Helvy

A Belleview man was jailed Sunday morning after a nasty scuffle with a woman over a dish towel he was using to wash his vehicle.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to a home on SE 119th Place and when he arrived, the woman said 53-year-old B.J. Helvy was upset at her because she called law enforcement for help. She claimed she was “scared for her life” and called Helvy “dangerous,” a sheriff’s office report states.

The woman said Helvy came into the house with his first raised after she confronted him about using a “good” dish towel to wash his vehicle. She said Helvy acted as if he was going to punch her and allegedly said, “I’ll break your jaw.” The woman said she was in fear for her safety and that’s why she called the sheriff’s office for help, the report says.

Helvy refused to speak with the deputy and was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic simple assault. He is being held on $5,000 bond and is due in court Dec. 3 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charge.
