Violent tussle over bus stop duty in front of kids lands Ocala woman behind bars

Catherine Mary Budy

A nasty tiff in front of her children over who would take them to a bus stop landed an Ocala woman behind bars last week.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence on SW 130th Court in Ocala early Thursday morning, where they spoke with a man who said he had been in a verbal altercation with 25-year-old Catherine Mary Budy. The man said the argument was about her responsibility to take her kids to the bus stop. He said the tiff turned violent when she shoved him in the chest in front of the children, the report says.

Budy came out of the residence holding with her hands out as if they were going to put in handcuffs, saying, “Take me.” She then said she shoved the man because he pushed her first, the report says.

The oldest child in the residence said the man came into the house yelling and she saw her mother shove him in the chest first. Budy was taken into custody and after being read her rights, refused to speak with deputies. She then “became disrespectful and verbally abusive” toward the deputy who was transporting her to the Marion County Jail, the report says.

Budy was charged with domestic battery and held on $1,000 bond. She is due in a Marion County courtroom on Feb. 26 at 8 a.m. to answer to the charge.

Budy is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having been held in the jail four times since March 2014. All three of her past arrests have included some form of battery charges, with the one in 2014 also including criminal mischief.

One of those arrests came in October 2018 when Budy was arrested after “throwing things around the house” and kicking her roommate. When a deputy arrived at her house, she promptly said, “Handcuff me and take me to jail. I did it,” a sheriff’s office report states.
