Umatilla man seen through window battering woman

Nicholas Jay Keen

A Umatilla man previously jailed on a battery charge was arrested again after being observed through a window striking a woman and throwing her around.

Nicholas Jay Keen, 41, was charged with battery (second or subsequent offense) after the incident, which happened Thursday afternoon. Keen pled no contest to a battery charge in Volusia County on May 10, 2018, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office report.

The victim told a sheriff’s deputy that Keen punched her in the face, threw her approximately five or six times and pushed her into a mirror in the master bedroom, causing it to break. An eyewitness said he saw Keen punch the victim in the face and throw her around a few times. He said he saw the incident take place through the master bedroom window from outside the residence, the report said.

Keen told the deputy there was no physical altercation between him and the victim. He said the victim was punched in the face by another person earlier in the day. The deputy observed Keen’s knuckles were red, which is consistent with striking an object or person, according to the report.

The victim allowed the deputy inside the residence, where the deputy observed a glass mirror freshly broken into shards. The victim had a swollen left eye, which was also red, and a small laceration on her right arm, the report said.

Keen was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Saturday on $2,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on April 7.
