Ocala man caught with meth while trying to flee arrest on warrant

Anthony Charles Rickman

An Ocala man who tried to run from deputies arresting him on a warrant reportedly had methamphetamine in his wallet when he was caught.

Anthony Charles Rickman, 44, of 9321 Bahia Road, was charged with resisting an officer without violence and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription in addition to the warrant charge of second-degree petit theft (first offense).

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were at a residence on SE 104th Street in Summerfield on Sunday, asking the homeowner about Rickman when one of them saw an unidentified man run off the front porch and hide behind a shed in the back yard, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy watched the man – later identified as Rickman – from the north side of a privacy fence for several minutes. During this time, Rickman continued to crouch behind the shed, periodically peeking around the corner to look for the other deputy. The homeowner gave the deputy access to the back yard, and the deputy tried to speak to Rickman from a distance and waved to him, the report said.

Rickman jumped the back fence and started running away. He was apprehended after a short pursuit. While searching Rickman before placing him in the patrol car, a deputy checked the contents of his wallet and oud a clear plastic wrapper that contained a clear sand-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the report.

Rickman is being held without bond in the Marion County Jail and will appear in Marion County Court on March 9.
