Driver loses control of truck, crashes into school bus in SE Ocala

A Marion County school bus was involved in a crash on U.S. 441 in Ocala on Wednesday evening.

At around 5:15 p.m., a truck and school bus were both heading southbound on U.S. 441, near the intersection of SE 52nd Street. The truck was traveling within the inside lane and the school bus was in the outside lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that the driver of the truck, identified in the report as a 36-year-old Belleview man, failed to notice the traffic that was stopped in front of him. Moments later, he lost control of his truck and traveled into the outside lane.

The front of the truck proceeded to crash into the left side of the school bus, and both vehicles relocated to the west grass shoulder of U.S. 441 after the collision. An FHP trooper noted in the report that skid marks were visible on the roadway at the scene of the accident.

According to FHP, the truck had one passenger who was identified as an 18-year-old man from Scranton, Pennsylvania. The school bus, which was driven by a 49-year-old Ocala woman, had a 17-year-old male passenger from Ocala.

There were no injuries reported.

The names of the drivers and passengers involved in the accident were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
