Marion sheriff’s office hosting self-defense classes for women in April

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office will host a free Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) course next month to teach participating women and girls how to protect themselves against threats in a variety of situations.

This comprehensive 12-hour program is taught in four 3-hour sessions, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the MCSO Training Building located at 692 NW 30th Avenue in Ocala. During the program, participants will learn realistic self-defense tactics and techniques.

The course in April will consist of the following sessions:

  • Session one: Thursday, April 11.
  • Session two: Tuesday, April 16.
  • Session three: Thursday, April 18.
  • Session four: Tuesday, April 23.

According to MCSO, the comprehensive course begins with a focus on awareness, prevention, risk reduction, and avoidance, and progresses into the basics of hands-on defense training.

Attendance is confidential, and the course provides a safe environment for women and girls to learn how to protect themselves against threats in numerous situations.

The program is suitable for ages 13 and up, and comfortable/workout clothing is recommended.
