Citra woman popped at credit union after raiding elderly woman’s bank account

Dorothy Jennifer Colleton

A Citra woman found herself behind bars Thursday after Marion County sheriff’s deputies arrested her at local bank.

Deputies responded to MidFlorida Credit Union, located at 10131 S.E. U.S. Hwy. 441 in Belleview, after receiving a report of suspicious activity on an elderly customer’s account.

Dorothy Jennifer Colleton, 31, was at the credit union and had cashed multiple checks from the victim – who was suffering from dementia – without the victim’s knowledge, a sheriff’s office report states.

It was determined that over the course of several months, Colleton had been fraudulently obtaining funds from the victim’s bank account. She was detained at the bank until deputies arrived and later confessed to the theft, the report says.

Colleton was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with exploitation of the elderly and larceny/grand theft. She was being held on $7,000 bond and is due in court Jan. 5 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges, jail records show.
